The National Programme for IT
The National Programme for IT (NPfIT) is a key part of reform of the NHS and will help make the NHS a truly responsive service that provides patients with more choice.

To help patients make vital choices about their healthcare they will need access to more information about the NHS and their own personal health and care history than ever before.

NPfIT will improve the NHS and benefit all those who work in it and who use it by ensuring that the right information about a patient is available to the right people at the right time.

It will improve the quality of time spent with patients by significantly reducing the administrative burden on clinicians and healthcare professionals.

To take this ambitious plan ahead, the NHS grouped the country into five 'clusters' of Strategic Health Authorities (SHAs) to enable them to work together and with Local Service Providers (LSPs) to manage the implementation of the National Programme for IT.

CSC is the LSP responsible for the delivery of this Programme across the North West and West Midlands, the North East and the East and East Midlands clusters. CSC leads the CSC Alliance, which supports and enables the modernisation of NHS and social services in care communities in this area through the delivery of the NHS Care Records Service.
